Walking

       

There are literally hundreds of different walks in the area many featuring spectacular coastal and mountain views. There are also several organised walks that arrange for buses to pick-up or drop-off after walking. Some of the better known walks are listed here:

  • St Brides Major Walk

A short and easy 4 mile walk along the Heritage Coast and gives walkers a taste of both the country and coast.

  • The Ogwr Ridgeway Walk

This 13 mile marked route traverses a range of ridges and valleys providing unobstructed views of the Vale of Glamorgan.

  • The Raven Walk

A 12 mile circular route above Ebbw and Sirowy valleys giving walkers wonderful views of the Brecon Beacons.

  • Cwm Haford Walk

This short 2 mile circular walk starts at the Rhondda Heritage Park and climbs to several hundred meters above sea level giving wonderful views of the valley of the river Rhondda, one of Wales' most historic and famous areas.

  • Valeways Walks

There are also a least another dozen walks within a few minutes of Crossways House that can be enjoyed by our guests and route maps are provided at reception.

Cycling

                                              

There are several well known bike routes in the area allowing one to tour the region by bike or simply provide individuals with some healthy exercise in pleasant scenery for further details of these and other routes phone 0800 243731.

There are several well established routes supported by the National Cycle Network including:

  • Celtic Trail  

The Celtic trail traverses along 220 miles of the most beautiful and diverse scenery in Soth and West Wales starting at the gateway to Wales the Severn Bridge all the way to the coast of Pembrokeshire.

  • Lon Las Cymru

The southern end of this 240 mile north -south trail gives cyclists wonderful access to the valleys of S. Wales and the Brecon Beacons, revealing the once dramatic heritage of the area and the majestic wild hills en route.

  • Taff Trail

Starting in Cardiff Bay this 55 mile largely off-road route takes you northwards through the Valleys to the town of Brecon along old railway lines, forestry tracks and quite country lanes.

Golf

Many golf facilities exist within a short drive of the Crossways House, for both low handicapped players and beginners. Green fee costs are also quite reasonable for visitors ranging from £10 -35 per round on average. Here are a short list of some local courses including the championship links course of Royal Porthcawl:

In addition, there are many pay as you play golf courses near-by. Too many to list separately.

Horse Riding

You don't have top be an expert to enjoy the pleasures that horse riding brings. There are many riding centres located in the area allowing one to enjoy the pleasures of riding and the beautiful surrounding scenery.

Motor Racing

The well known Llandow motor racing circuit is only a few minutes drive away and features many organised events throughout the year. In addition, there are two Go Kart race tracks close by that are open to all from ages 10 and up.
